Is The World F*cked?

#23 - Can the Trees Save Us?

Bruce McCabe & Paul Jones

The hottest July (2023) in 120,000 years seems like a good time for a status check on emissions. We couldn't let it go... even the most skeptical out there would have to be interested in this result.

OK - so July 2023 broke all heat records in the air and in the ocean. And not just by a bit. We're talking about a massive effort result coming from where to mark the hottest month ever recorded globally by as much as a whopping 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit .

It was hotter last month than anything we’ve seen in the last 80 or so years, and scientists don’t think it stops there, with some experts using proxy measures to estimate it may have been the hottest month in the last 120,000 years.

So, we have found the time to talk about superheated oceans and the climate effects of changing currents, then Dr Bruce does a deep dive into deforestation. How fast? Where? Who’s cutting them down? Why? What about reforesting?

And the Big Question: is it possible, if we really set out minds to it, to plant our way out of the climate crisis? PJ and Bruce roll up their sleeves and talk about personal actions: and one thing we can all do to help improve our futures:  (hint it's really easy) but are you bold enough to accept the challenge? Surprises galore in this episode!

And for the record, when we're doing real work and not podcasting, you'll find Dr Bruce, The Global Futurist presenting here and PJ applying his digital marketing genius here. Enjoy!
